Outlook Safe Mode, Offline Mode, Reset Corrupt Files

I had one machine where the Outlook 2000 splash screen would load, one processor would be pegged at 100%, and Outlook wouldn't open in normal mode. Safe mode did work though. Turned out to be a corrupt outcmd.dat.

Another time: got a nearly immediate pop up and Outlook wouldn't open, error mentioned mso9.dll.

outcmd.dat - keeps toolbar customizations
extend.dat - relates to add-ins - Outlook rebuilds using registry when missing

And again:

In XP the folders are a bit different:

"SRS" files

Added after Outlook 2000. remove and let Outlook rebuild to fix some send/receive issues.

Offline Mode

Start w/this flag to start in offline mode: /nopollmail

Safe Mode Switch

Run "outlook.exe /safe" (In Windows 7). Or hold CTRL key while clicking Outlook icon.

Registry Outlook 2007 (AKA 12.0): HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Outlook

Temp folder where attachments go before opening in Excel or whatever:
XP: C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\OLK1F

tags: o2k, outlook, email, safe, o2k3
