Handspring Hotsync Infrared

So, after 5 years with my Handspring Palm OS PDA, I stumble upon a dirt cheap USB IrDA dongle.

I didn't realize that Handsprings do not come built in with IrDA sync. abilities... something to do with it being palm OS 3.1 based.

Anyway, a quick search will lead everyone to a great utility: BeamSync.

It took me awhile to get BeamSync working but eventually I figured it out.

Here are a couple notes:

1. irLink.prc is OK to install (I don't know if it's necessary or not, but it doesn't hurt)

2. Make sure you install the ENGLISH version of BeamSync if you are using an English PalmOS ROM. I know it sounds stupid, but somehow I ended up with the wrong one installed. The error, was "IRLAPFRM.C, Line: xxx Too Many BOFS".

3. It's relatively hard to find the current homepage of BeamSync, as of 2007-04-28, it appears to be here (http://simple-palm.com/index-e.html): BeamSync. If it moves again, I had luck searching for the authors tag, "tatsushi".

Update: I suspect that any USB irda adaptor has to be plugged in prior to hotsync manager starting... need to try a few more times to be certain.

Gear: WinXP SP2, Visor Deluxe (English), cheap and generic USB IrDA dongle, problem, windows,
