Hey hey hey. Looks like I'm about to enter the world of webhosting consumer. Hope it goes well... all I want is cheap and good. =)

Anyway, some interesting links:

Yupapa has a free web host control panel too: http://www.yupapa.com/.
WebMin has grown a webhost type module too! http://www.swelltech.com/virtualmin/
one can pick up demo software (Windows) to monitor uptime here: http://www.paessler.com/?ref=IPCheckMenuHelpVisit. Trial lasts a month or so.
http://webcp.can-host.com/ - another GPL'd web host panel
nearlyfreespeech.net - very cheap hosting for tiny websites (2017) - though, at this size, the free tier of some of the big guys might apply too.
