missing character set error gnucash

I finally got gnucash working with these steps (Fedora FC1 image for CoLinux).

Install the base 100dpi X fonts
run "xset fp rehash" (i don't really know what it does...)
run gnucash!

I also ran "export LANG=en_US" at one point. I don't know if it made a difference in the end.

Now the fonts are too big... to change the GTK fonts (not gtk 2) in fedora, this page may provide clues:

Update: I've moved to using NXClient on Windows to access GnuCash running on another machine.  I got a similar error, all that was needed was to download and install the font packs that go with NXClient - available at nomachine.com
