XP Home Notes
Some notes about XP Home
-
Using CACLS to set permissions on an NTFS drive
-
An alternative to try would be Intel's Security Configuration Manager: http://www.dougknox.com/xp/tips/xp_home_sectab.htm
-
Or maybe this: Security Configuration Manager file from Microsoft. SCESP4I.EXE
-
No remote desktop available in XPHome.
-
MS Backup is on the CD, but not installed automatically.
-
No gpedit.msc - some of it's tricks can be done via the registry.
-
I recently realized that XP Home shares have no password. It uses the Guest account (and they make setting a password difficult). So... if you share a folder once, and happen to be hooked up directly to the Internet without a software firewall... you've shared to the world. Nice. Some ways to set permissions in Home Edition - http://tweakhound.com/xp/xpperm/xpPerm1.htm - the simplest is to run "shrpubw"

Set a Guest user password: net user guest
