Broken "View Source" option - try deleteing all the temporary internet files (using IE->Toolbar->Tools->Internet Options-> etc.).

On a related note, EditPlus works great as a source viewer. Much better than Notepad.

IE8+ press F12 to bring up a detail window that clearly shows if you are in compatibility mode or not... or look at that badly designed icon. If it's blue, you're in compat mode.
