DNS and Domain Stuff
-
http://www.dnsvalidation.com/ - excellent DNS checking tool, it validates SPF, reverse-DNS, all NS servers, and more. 2011-04.
-
http://www.betterwhois.com/ - Whois looks up the registration information for a domain. This site will search multiple whois databases to pick up the info for just about any domain.
-
http://www.dnsstuff.com/ - A good collection of tools to debug domain name service issues.
-
www.ultratools.com - will attempt a zone transfer in order to pull entire domain listing - will often not work, best practice is to disable such lookups... but worth a shot.
-
wwwizer.com - stupidly simple free service to "fix" the naked domain (AKA root domain aliases, root aliases, zone apex aliases) problem - Google Sites and some other services do not support the example.com hosting, only www.example.com. wwwizer provides a pre-built redirect.
-
Multiple DNS hosts now have non-RFC alternatives. ZoneEdit has ANAME
-
MX records "should" point to hostnames not IP addresses - i.e. don't use IP addresses. - https://serverfault.com/questions/663112/why-cant-mx-records-point-to-an-ip-address
-
OT: Sites looks up an IP address and returns who it is registered to, and if it's listed as a datacentre. (Many geoblocking services block any IP listed as a data centre)
