WiFi General Notes

TKIP is a wrapper around original (insecure) WEP.
AES is different, generally better.
WiFi-G, 54Mbps (megabits), is theoretically 6.75MB per second (megabytes), but really, 1.5-2.5MB is more typical for good situations - http://forums.anandtech.com/archive/index.php/t-2164874.html
Guest WiFi on a non-edge of LAN router is complicated because AP must send local and remote traffic over the same connection to router
- so, it's up to routing rules on the AP to filter out LAN access other than DNS, and to the gateway (i.e. router)

D-Link Router Notes

Some defaults for D-Link gear, I think it is common to many D-Link models, but definitely: DI-524, DIR-632

IP address: 192.168.0.1
Admin user: admin
Password: (blank)

D-Link DI-524

Factory Reset DI-524

Press the reset button for 10 seconds. You can use a small object, such as a paper clip to hold down the button.
Do not power off the unit while the router is being reset.
The unit should now reboot, and once the WLAN light stops blinking the router should be reset.

Issues: Upload settings does not work reliably in Chrome, 2014-06

Lights - normally status light blinks slowly, power LED stays on steady.

DIR-632

Factory reset - hold down reset button w/paper clip while plugging in power worked.

Web GUI - did not work in FireFox in Ubuntu. Chromium worked.

D-Link DIR-815

Has a power switch at back.
Presents a setup screen when you reset - some sort of standard or transparent proxy, not sure which. WAN does not get enabled until the entire process is done. So you enter the WiFi settings, router password, etc. Does NOT respond to WAN ping by default.
Default IP: 192.168.0.1
ports on back are colour coded and text labeled - 4 blue (LAN) and 1 yellow (Internet).
