I seem to have forgotten everything from Electronics Class - Day 1 - reading resistors. =) Here\'s a good URL for looking up those resistance color codes that I can\'t be bothered to dig up from my highschool notebooks.
Blatantly stolen from here:

Resistor Codes:
0 black
1 brown
2 red
3 orange
4 yellow
5 green
6 blue
7 violet
8 gray
9 white
TOL: gold 5% silver 10%
MUL: gold 0.1 silver 0.01
+-----------------------+
----| || || || || |-----

I I I I
I I I +--- Tolerance
I I +---Multiplier
I +--- Second digit
+--- First digit
A sample or two:
1000 Ohm: Brown - Orange - Gold (Tolerance 5%)
(Note, this example only uses 3 bars. The 2nd from the right remains the multiplier)
Note: It could be spelled resistor too, I think. Also, Canadians like me should really be spelling it \"colour\"...
Update(s): Old link broke. Ah well. And replacement link was broken in IE. So... for future proofing, the content has been quoted above.
