A good tutorial on how to add a (software) RAID-1 hard drive mirror setup to an existing Windows 2003 server.... now if only I could meet the goofball that setup my (now) new client's server w/o RAID... http://www.netadmintools.com/art439.html

Interesting article about RAID-Z by Sun, it really explains why it's the future of software RAID: http://blogs.sun.com/bonwick/entry/raid_z

Funny, booting to the 2nd drive in a Windows software mirror might not be that easy now that no server's have floppy drives - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/120227/ - http://www.petri.co.il/forums/showthread.php?t=23045

Windows XP and Windows Vista do NOT support software mirroring. I've been burned by this, I thought NT4 Workstation had software mirroring... so all Professional Windows should have... but they don't. - http://www.petri.co.il/software_mirror_in_windows_xp.htm

All server versions of Windows have software mirroring, some have RAID-5 too.

Windows 7 Professional does have software mirroring (something more or less RAID-1). I've actually tested this personally, so I know that it exists. But notifications of broken mirrors are inconsistent (at best).

Windows Mirror benchmarks. In Win7, apparently mirror reads are no faster than a single disk (theorectically, could have striped the reads, but it doesn't). Meh, main benefit is the mirror... http://kmwoley.com/blog/?p=429

Recover from failed primary disk in a mirror: (surprisingly hard to get a solid answer... I should test on my own...) - there are some boot.ini changes or something to change: http://serverfault.com/questions/438928/cant-boot-after-disk-0-of-software-raid-is-replaced
