Troubleshoot Accpac / Pervasive 49153 Error

An interesting forum thread on tracking down the elusive 49153 error from Pervasive 2000.

In my specific case, it was a problem with workstation connections to the workgroup engine of Pervasive. If the network was known to be fully functional before and the only change was a reboot of the "server" then chances are that the fix is to close all the Pervasive clients, including the one on the server. Then restarting the one on the server first. I.e. for the server to act as a server, it has to be the "gateway" and be running before other clients access the Pervasive database.

In another case (with the same installation), the user licenses for Pervasive Workgroup Engine were not installed after a server upgrade and migration of the Accpac database. It was difficult to track down because Accpac 4.1 included the license on its System Manager CD; however, in 4.2, the workgroup license is not included. In a reinstall, the obvious thing to do was skip the 4.1 install... which missed the multi-user pervasive license. Just load the Pervasive 2000 license file "ucmgr.key" from the CD through the Pervasive User Count Administrator Utility.
