I had a very hard time figuring out how to convert an Inkscape SVG to an WMF that I could use in SWiSH, Word, and probably a whole mess of other Windows applications.
Hopefully Inkscape will get a WMF export filter soon - in 0.48.2 it does (and probably has for years)!
Anyway, using pstoedit from this website: http://pstoedit.net/ seems to work. However, I couldn't be bothered to learn the command line syntax, so I ended up using the "Convert" menu item in GhostView - this is documented on the pstoedit site.
I later had to edit the WMF in OpenOffice Draw so that I could delete some of the off-page elements that I had left in the Inkscape drawing. Anyway.
