GTA free download frame rate work around

For whatever reason the GTA 1 free download for Windows had serious frame rate issues on my laptop. When the framerate limiter was left on, the game was ridiculously choppy. When off, the game was way too fast.

A few google searches later came up with this workaround:

Here's how I fixed the problem for me:
Click on the Start Menu then go to Run
Type "dxdiag" (without the quotes) and press the enter key
Then go to the Sound tab and lower the Hardware Sound Acceleration Level to Basic (2nd notch from the left)
Close the program
Now you can play the original GTA, just remember to set Hardware Sound Acceleration back to full before you play another game
